The Ex in a Hallmark film

 

If life were like a Hallmark movie

I would be the guy left in the city alone

wondering why the girl who was in all of my dreams

left for a small town and didn't look back.

I would be the guy left wondering

why the girl I was going to marry

didn't understand that I could value my work

and love her at the same time.

The guy left wondering when love became

all or nothing.

If this was a Hallmark movie

and I risked my great life in the city to chase you down

in a town that I spent years dreaming of escaping

I would not be so understanding.

If this was a Hallmark movie

and I was ready to propose

only for you to leave town

and rekindle an old flame

without a thought to me

I would be heartbroken and

ready to tear down that town.

But this is not a Hallmark movie

and you left me to be the villain

in your love story

just like the ex at the end of a Hallmark film.

Why She Can't Leave
