Solace in Selfishness

 

I have given all of myself to you
And you have left me here on the ground
To keep bleeding out in the service of your cause
Until all that is left is a doormat in the shape of a person
Who is more zombie than person at this point.

I refuse to give you any more
I am putting up the boundaries and locking the door
So no more selflessness
For the sake of making you feel good
Or making your life easier
When it breaks something inside of me
